This item is a somewhat scarce ENGLISH MONOCULAR in a FITTED LEATHER CASE. These were used in English Country House libraries to read book titles in library bookshelves. This saved folks from having to move ladders around to read book titles. They work exactly like a set of binoculars or a telescope, one extends it until the title is readable. It is silver plated and has excellent optics - clear and bright. The case is leather and in very good condition. It extends from 2” to 3 1/2”. It operates very smoothly. It dates 1820’s.
