This beautiful Polychrome Gesso Relief depicts a Postman with his Posthorn in a typical Biedermeier parlor. He is bringing a letter to a young Lady who is drowned in her thoughts with closed eyes. It is a typical work of the the second half of the 19th century and comes from Continental Europe. Not only the 1 1/4 inch deep Relief is very magnificent, but also the polychrome paintwork makes this piece vivid.
This beautiful piece gains a lot of character through its stunning Rococo style bronze frame. It shows four beautiful Putti / Angels / Cherubs and features floral designs & rocailles and the typical asymmetrical designs, curves, and gold / bronte of Rococo.
Condition: Good antique condition with only very few minor chips of paint and some small dents in the bronze frame.
