This large hand blown limited edition studio art glass paperweight perfume bottle was made by Doug Merritt & Steve Smarr for Vandermark Merritt Glass Studios, founded in 1972. The cased glass bottle features magenta colored clematis blossoms with controlled bubble centers. The design includes tall green stems and variegated leaves which contribute to the visual illusion that the flowers are floating within a vase. The bottle itself has a flared shape with three flat sides that terminate in rounded shoulders. The bottle comes complete with its original dauber topped by a clear spherical finial. The inside has a round reservoir made to hold perfume.
The perfume bottle is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. As a vintage item, the piece shows signs of use consisting of a few light scratches which do not detract from the appearance of the piece and are mentioned for accuracy. The bottle stands 7" tall without the dauber and 8.75" when the dauber is in place. The asymmetrical base is 2.25" by 2.25" at its widest point and the shoulder is approximately 3" across. The dauber itself is 2.5" long and the spherical finial is 1.375" wide. The 3lb 6oz oz piece bears the studio name "Vandermark" along with "BP04C" and edition number "100/250". It also carries the signatures "Doug Merritt" and "Stephen Smarr".
This lovely perfume bottle displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of hand blown studio art glass. The piece would make a wonderful gift or may be just what you have been looking for to add to your own collection. A terrific vintage find!
