For sale here is a very large and quite heavy vintage 1950s handmade Murano glass summerso and bullicante Apple bookend paperweight by the firm of Alfredo Barbini of Venice, Italy. An iconic design in classic clear and included gold leaf sommerso with controlled bubbles. The gold leaf sommerso surrounds a large bubble while the grid of smaller bubbles are in the clear glass section. Altogether a mid century masterwork by one of the greats of Murano! Measures 4" tall by 4-1/4" diameter, and weighs 1139.2 grams or nearly 2.5 pounds prior to packing. There are two flattened areas which means that this paperweight can also be used as a bookend, or simply displayed in different positions. Unmarked, but a recognized and documented design by Barbini. (These paperweights usually just carried the paper label for the firm, and these were often taken off by their owners.) Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear on the flattened surfaces but no chips or cracks or damage of any kind as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase.
