A rare set of nested apothecary's bronze measurement weights from the late 19th century.
A wide array of assay type marks and stamps on the lid of the master housing.
The nested cup designs aided the transport of weights, which were essential tool in the many commercial transactions.
Their design or idea dates back to Roman times, to increase the portability of sets of weight by minimizing the size of an entire group of weights into one container. This set has seven interlocking bowls or pillars plus the master cup. A total weight of 1495grams.
The nested set measures 10cm tall and is 79cm in diameter.
The largest cup or pillar houses all of the other bowls which are in decreasing sizes. The other bowl locks with a bar and clasped side lock.
These beautiful examples are European and are possibly a Nuremberg set.
Normal aging not cleaned or polished.
