1890's Cast Iron bird design space heater bank - image 1 of 16

This cast iron still bank is an example of one of the space heater designs produced by Chamberlain and Hill. Chamberlain and Hill, an English company based in Walsall, made these banks in the 1890’s. The bank we have here is an original. It has the original finish which has some losses but is mostly intact. This 120 to 130 year old antique bank is quite attractive and displays well. It does have a flaw which can not be seen unless the bank is taken apart. When we first obtained this bank the top was on askew. We took the bank apart to straighten the top and found the edges of the pieces forming the hole at the top to be broken off leaving the hole larger than it originally was. When the bank is put together this is covered up by the finial. We would not have found this out had we not taken the bank apart and it will not be visible unless the bank is taken apart again. We had some difficulty getting the bank back together with everything aligned properly. This bank is great for displaying with a bank collection as this is a popular and less common design. I would suggest it be for display only. Although it could be used you may find it difficult to get back together with everything aligned correctly.
