Antique Mid-1800s D Y Jones & Co. Cast Iron Frog Advertising Paperweight - image 1 of 8

A fabulous find for any frog collector! This terrific amphibian is an 1800s advertising piece disguised as a paperweight. (Or -- today -- an attractive figure to grace one's desk or shelf.)

Froggy is solid cast iron, very realistic. He is a historical piece from the 1800s, made by the D Y Jones & Co. of Reading, Pennsylvania to advertise their company. We could not find much information on this company, but we did find an advertisement in an 1869 Scientific American weekly journal for it, selling "Hardware And Other Fine Gray Iron Castings, Made At Lowest Prices."

SIZE: At approximately 3-1/2 inches long, 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall, he's solid metal and extremely heavy for his size. Weight before packing is 1 pound 2 ounces!

CONDITION is superb with NO cracks, chips, splits or broken parts. Remnants of old paint (possibly the original finish?) remain, setting off the smooth, rust-free original surface. The company name molded into the bottom has been worn away quite a bit, but it is perfectly legible if you know what it says.
