This is an unusual and intriguing silver mesh purse as it was created to be worn on a green Bakelite bangle. The mesh is attached to the bangle with a series of rings which attach to a Vandyke-type pattern at the top of the mesh. There is an opening with a green-coloured teardrop pull and at the bottom of the purse is a dome-shaped section of Bakelite with silver tassels. Chatelaines and purses were worn from the wrist as well as on a finger in the early 20th century. The condition is very good for age with no problems with the Bakelite, and the mesh appears to be intact.
Maximum length 9.5 ins (24.1cm). Weight 122 grams. This item appears in my book, “Chatelaines, Utility to Glorious Extravagance” on page 273.
Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $30.00 USD - with no tracking is cheaper. For shipping cost to other countries, please contact us.
