This is a rectangular silver mesh purse decorated with seven small balls at the bottom. The frame is of marked sterling silver. The frame is attached to two short chains that fit onto a silver bangle (unmarked). Chatelaines and purses were worn from the wrist as well as on a finger in the early 20th century. When the purse is opened with its little ring pull one can see that there are three probable scattered missing tiny links but this is not particularly noticeable from the outside – otherwise the condition is very good for age. A mesh purse on a bangle appears to be a less common variety and would add to a collection of purses or of general fashion accessories. Maximum length 9 ins (22.8cm). Weight 86 grams.
This item appears in my book, “Chatelaines, Utility to Glorious Extravagance” on page 273.
Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $30.00 USD - with no tracking is cheaper. For shipping cost to other countries, please contact us.
