A splendid Japanese urushi lacquer ware wooden tray done in the Gold Leaf art form. A deep, shiny luster of black lacquer, gorgeously decorated with gold. Made in Kanazawa, Japan where gold leaf lacquer works are a very old tradition.
Never used and in its original box.
The entire tray (front and back) is lacquered in black with a wide tapered border down on side adorned with gold leaf squares. Rectangular shape with gently rounded corners and slightly raised edges. A classic design with a modern sensibility.
Purchased in Kanazawa in the early 1970s.
Measures 14-1/4 x 10-5/8 inches. 1/4 inches thick.
Condition is excellent to mint. Never used and with no damage or wear. Box (white with gold and silver specks) is pristine. Original paperwork with some history of gold leaf lacquer ware.
